Letter of Invitation

Dear Colleagues,

My name is Jonathan Hoang Lam, MD, the current President of VAMA.

I am writing to introduce our organization to you, and hopefully you will participate in our future activities.

The Vietnamese American Medical Association (VAMA) was established in 1987 as a non-profit organization for physicians of Vietnamese heritage who live and practice in the United States. From 1987 to 2011, the VAMA has grown and matured rapidly. The VAMA serves as a centralized forum for Vietnamese health care professionals, including physicians, dentists, pharmacists, and other allied health professionals, who live and practice in the United States. The VAMA establishes a venue for members to participate in continuing education programs related to public and private health care issues, diagnoses and treatments of diseases, and community outreach programs.

The VAMA organizes annual national conventions to allow Vietnamese physicians, along with dentists and pharmacists ( Y Nha Duoc—YND), to join together to share our unique heritage with colleagues, while being able to obtain the latest CME updates on diverse medical specialties, and interesting topics that are more unique to Asian Health delivered by renowned Vietnamese American professors and lecturers. Since 2005, the host cities for the VAMA Annual Conventions have included Washington, DC; Dallas; Atlanta; San Jose; Boston; and Houston—featured first Vietnamese American Congressman Joseph Anh Cao as Keynote Speaker.

Recently, VAMA members participated in a joined Convention of Vietnamese Physicians, Dentists, and Pharmacists of the Free World in Toronto, August 11-14, 2012. It was a great Convention with many attendees from first generations ( graduates from Vietnam ) and second generations ( graduates in USA). The Convention featured great speakers, offered relevant topics for us to keep up with CME. There were many extracurricular activities, and social networking opportunities for us to rekindle with old friends while meeting new friends. The sight-seeing tours of Toronto Harbor at night and Niagara Falls were especially memorable. For further information & past events photos, please visit our website www.vamausa.com
